Simple Meets Summer

Summer is officially here! I can’t believe it, because it also means I haven’t written a blog for a few months. Sigh. Where does time go?! I thought there would be no better space to start to write about than the outdoors…where I am spending most of the summer with my twins.

Even though summer is about kicking back and keeping it casual, let’s not forget about the details that make a house sing….beautifully appointed railings, gates, perfectly sculpted boxwoods, hydrangeas heavy with flowers. Simple landscaping with perfect details.

This clever installation of concrete pads for the furniture allows for easier maintenance and a very structured looking pool deck..

Beautiful greenery carving a pathway to this charming gate. I love the idea of using hedges or shrubbery to create a natural fence to this side yard.

I wonder what lies behind this entry? Beautiful barn door surrounded by old stones and a rustic X-patterned fence. Love the mixture and utilization of materials and all of the greenery that lies ahead. The repetition of boxwood bushes is a favorite of mine!

This beautiful greenery leading up to a charming home. Keeping the landscaping all one color helps simplify the yard and focus on the natural beauty. And the pop of color on the door makes you wonder what's inside. And the little dog is perfect!

Beautifully simplistic color scheme in this area. Reminds me of a 1970's garden tea room but with a modern flair. I'd love to have lunch in this space.

Love the industrial nature of this gate. The riveting detail and use of metal provides a nice contrast to this home's surroundings.

Pairing chinoiserie inspired railing sections with straight-lines is a great way to keep the design clean and visually less cluttered. A bit of modern meets traditional.

How beautiful is this backyard? Scale plays a big role here. Notice the height on the greenery and the architecture of the concrete and grass pads. Simple boxwoods and a potted lemon tree. The furniture is a mix of materials and traditional versus contemporary.
