Welcome to My Notebook | Tiffany Farha Design
Let's Start With The Basics.
I have been thinking about writing my first blog for a while now, and have even been threatened by my dear sweet husband that if I didn’t get to it, he would submit my first blog….and he made good on his promise….hence the blog on iPhone cases. ;)
It's hard to pick a theme when you have a little case of creative chaos (and twin toddlers) on your mind, and then it hit me. Why not go back to the basics?
Black and White. White and Black.
It's one of my favorite looks. Its an old rule that every room needs to have at least one touch of black – but sometimes the old rules are there for a reason. Black lampshade, black table…why not an entire black and white room?
The clean and fresh nature of white renders an open canvas on which to add visual interest. The stark existence of black adds drama to any area. Incorporating both, hand in hand, generates visual movement and a place for your eye to land. Simple and refined yet full of texture. Never over decorated!

Here are some images I find inspirational.
The first image has been a personal favorite of mine for years because of the simplicity, eclecticism, and freshness that it brings. I dug it out of an old magazine file (yep, pre-Pinterest). Look at the texture on the wooden furniture and in the potted tree. And I love the black and white art for drama. Yum.
A home I created in California. White walls, ebony furniture. Texture on the pillows and the rug. A view of the ocean doesn't hurt. :)
A chic vintage office design that takes a traditional Asian desk and paints it glossy black. Silk off white window panels and white bookshelves. Piles of magazines add a 'lived in' feeling.
Very little color in this stairwell. Just black and white. And texture from the wood floor. I love the mix of old and new.
Beautiful rustic house- Tempering an all-white palette with natural wood and stone. Notice the black door, fire screen and other small details that ground the room. We often think that rustic has to be brown and dark. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Another rustic and modern room – love the texture and the touch of green! Notice the black cabinetry in the room beyond. Great contrast.
A beautiful door in black metal. White plaster walls.
Black roman shades. Black and white embroidered draperies. Zebra hide bench. It takes traditional shapes and concepts, and tweaks them in a modern and fresh way. Love.
The last image is an installation I recently created. Antique sconces, original to the home, hang above a classically modern, custom made lyre table painted in jet black. Black and white marble floors - timeless.
